"Grey is her raiment; and rest is her gift"

Last summer I made a matching bracelet to my soft grey pendant (it was one of my experiments with the "Freiheit"-pattern). The elements are basically the miniaturised version of the pendant - well, at least the base is proportionally downscaled (the pendant had a 12 mm focal with 8 mm beads, so I used for the bracelet 6 mm focals with 4 mm beads), but the embellishing row is almost the same in both cases.

Back then I had said, how the ready pendant with its soft grey colour reminded me of Este* the Gentle, "healer of hurts and weariness", one of the Valier.
When I was reading The Silmarillion for the first time, I was  a ten-years-old little bookworm, interested in mythologies and legends, so it's only natural that I was totally fascinated by the Valaquenta. It was for me a new, interesting "pantheon" to learn, after all that Greek, Roman, Norse and whatnot myths. And sure enough, I tried to find paralels, like "So, Manwe is the king, is in charge for air and wind, and has eagles. Than he is basically like Zeus/Iuppiter. But Manwe is at least nice, while Zeus was rather an a**hole..." That's how a little schoolgirl, who has never heard about comparative religion studies, interprets it XD
At this stage I found Este rather uninteresting. Grey dress, slumbering in a garden: how boring is it! - so had thought the naive, impatient young child, who preferred great heroes, beautiful maidens and majestic queens. But now the tired, stressed adult revaluates all her former opinions, and admits she was wrong all along... Aren't Este's gifts the most precious, after all? Worthier than gems and jewels, maybe even than power, valour or knowledge...


*No, I stilll don't know how to write those two dots above the letter "e", which should be used in some Elvish names. It's an awkward situation, since normally I'm a terrible combination of a grammar nazi and a book purist, and can be really fussy about orthography and respecting above all the author's intention... But this case is the only exception, sorry ^.^"

Circulus vitiosus

Um seine Hobbys finanzieren zu können, man muss ja Geld verdienen. Aber neben Arbeit ist es nicht einfach, Zeit für die Hobbys zu finden... Klar, ich habe jetzt ein viel komplizierteres Problem sehr vereinfacht, im Grunde genommen ist es aber doch so. Man hat ja entweder Geld, oder Freizeit, oder Inspiration - aber alle gleichzeitig... das kommt ja selten.

Ich habe aber manches gefädelt, wenn auch nicht viel, konnte aber mich nicht dazu bringen, sie zu posten. Jetzt werde ich versuchen, das Versäumnis nachzuholen.

 Für meine Schwester zu ihrem Namenstag. Ich hatte dann nur eine sehr limitierte Perlenauswahl bei mir, und sollte schnell etwas improvisieren - bin aber zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Ich möchte mit dem Muster noch weiter experimentieren, mal sehen, was daraus kommen wird...








Versuche mit 8 mm Chatons. Diese Blauen waren eigentlich nur Probestücke - da sie aber so niedlich geworden sind, werde ich sie behalten.
Dieses Design möchte ich dennoch bei einem größeren Projekt zu verwenden, Gott weiß aber nur, wenn...

Pattern of the "Shinzou" bracelet

Last year I made some bracelets matching to my "Freiheit"-pendants. I wanted to make a tutorial for the bracelet as well, but unfortunately it took a long time to finish it. But finally, it's here - many thanks to Nicole from Drei kleine Perlen for testing it! You can see her beautiful version here. Actually, I was encouraged to publish the pattern by seeing how great her version turned out. (I had been a bit uncertain at the beginning, whether the pattern will be usable or not...)

Here are the versions I've made so far: teal (later supplemented with a ring too), copper, black-silver and green.

PS: I know, the picture is not the best, but they looked so fun together... like a vambrace :)

Silver-blue set

Well, I can't even count, how many pieces I've made in this colorway...

But this set is not entirely new, I've only switched the satin straps of this bracelet to beaded ones, remade one of the earrings which  was unfortunately broken, and made a ring as addition.
Okay, that sounds like the paradox of Theseus's ship: is it then now a new set or yet the old one? :)

I started the blog more than a year ago, but haven't shown my greatest pride yet. This ought to be mended - and now is the perfect occasion for it!

Firstly,  now is the 80th anniversary of  The Hobbit - it was first published on 21. September 1937. On the other hand, as can be read in The Lord of the Rings, Bilbo and Frodo happen to have their birthday on the same day, September 22.

I was never good at knotting, I made only small friendship bracelets and thought that for a bigger piece I wouldn't have enough skill and perseverance. But when I discovered this great LotR-pattern on friendship-bracelets.net by the user frenchfry_piggy here, my fate was sealed :) It was a very-very long labour (especially because I used rather thin thread), I had almost gave it up, laid it aside for months, then started again... All in all, it took more than two years to finish it. 

The Hobbit-bracelet has a totally different tale. In December 2012 I was terribly (and looking back, I must say a bit unjustifiedly) excited about the oncoming Hobbit movie, so when finding this pattern by Baya, I decided to made a bracelet to wear in the cinema. Time was pressing though, only a week was left, but I hoped, it will be enough. It could have been a good idea... when we ignore the fact, that it was already exam period at the university. You can imagine the situation... But finally, I made it! I passed the dreaded exam and finished the bracelet just before the movie :)

Sure, that was ages ago... at least it seems so for me. I've already forgotten all the definitions and formulas I had learned for that exam, but my feelings for Tolkien's writings are the same :)

Recycling

A múltkor említett diadémot természetesen lebontottam azóta, hiszen semmi értelme nem lett volna megtartani egy ilyen hordhatatlan darabot - a központi elemet viszont nagyjából megmentettem, és átraktam egy sima nyakláncalapra, a "visszanyert" gyöngyökből pedig készült hozzá egy karkötő (amúgy is kellett egy fekete kari a rövidujjú blúzomhoz...). Sőőőőőt, a maradékból még egy kis gyűrűre is futotta.

I've torn apart the headband (mentioned in the previous post), but saved the central piece, putting it as a simple pendant on a rope. From the rest of the beads a bracelet and a little ring were created. So  a smart, practical little set has arisen from the remnants of a totally unwearable, weird piece :)

Und weiter geht's...

Da das blaue so gut gelungen ist, habe ich natürlich auch zu meinem kupferfarbigen Anhänger ein passendes Armbändchen gemacht. Diese Rundperlen haben ja so eine angenehme Textur, ich wollte eigentlich immer ein Armband aus sie machen, nur ein passendes Muster fehlte mir bisher.

Au, erst jetzt fällt mir ein, dass gerade dieses auf meinem rechten Handgelenk zu tragen war nicht die beste Entscheidung... :'(

Ozeanblau :)

Nach langer Pause wieder zurück zu diesem schon mehr als ein Jahre alten Blog - ja bitte, er hatte Geburtstag im Februar :) Ich wollte eigentlich aus diesem Anlass etwas präsentieren, eine Anleitung vielleicht, konnte aber leider nichts machen, was ich sehr bereue. Es war ein ziemlich unglücklicher (oder wenigstens chaotischer) Monat aus jedem Aspekt...
Zu Perlenfädeln habe ich eigentlich erst in dieser Woche gekommen, hier das Ergebnis - und zwar mit viel überflüssigem Geschwätz...

Dieses Armband habe ich zu meinem blauen Anhänger gemacht. Die Farbe habe ich ohne besonderen Absicht gewählt, nur später realisierte ich, dass es gut zu den aktuellen Ereignissen des Mangas Shingeki no kyojin passt. Es ist ja blau, wie der Ozean, zu dem einer der Charaktere sich sehnt... und dann sah es gerade so aus, dass seiner Traum nie erfüllt werden kann. (Schon gut, der Ozean mag in der Wirklichkeit ganz andere Farben haben  - weiß nicht, da ich auch nie gesehen habe. Für mich ist er blau*)

Und was passierte im vorletzten Kapitel? Ja bitte, sie haben endlich den Ozean erreicht! Aber...
Wir alle haben ja Träume. die uns Kraft geben. Wir brauchen an etwas glauben, um weitergehen zu können.
Aber wenn du nach viel Leiden und Kampf dein Ziel erreichen hast, und siehst, dass es gar nicht die Ende, sondern der Beginn ist... Bis jetzt hast du vielleicht darauf gehofft, dass wenn du diesen Punkt erreichst, wird alles gelöst, wirst du frei und froh. Du warst aber naiv - der schlimmste Teil kommt erst von da an...

Und ja, du kannst dich auch ähnlich fühlen, wenn nur eine BA-Ausbildung gemacht hast, und nicht gegen Titanen gekämpft hast. Unser Diplom hat ja auch blauen Umschlag ;)

Well, I'm back :)

Nem tudom, ki hogy van vele, de nekem pont a nyár a legrosszabb időszak a gyöngyfűzésben - hiába lett volna időm, de kedvem, ötletem nem volt szinte semmi. Buta helyzet, igaz?

Weiß nicht, wie es bei euch geht, aber für mich ist der Sommer die schlechteste Periode, was das Perlenfädeln betrifft - Zeit hätte ich gehabt, aber Lust und Inspiration ganz und gar nicht. Dumme Situation, ich weiß...

Csomózott karkötők 2. / Friendship bracelets 2.

A korábbi hasonló bejegyzésben már említettem, mennyire szeretem Conny csomózós oldalát,  a freundschaftsbaender.at-t, most kicsit bővebben is írok róla.
Mint láthatjátok, ez egy német nyelvű oldal - de én ennek kifejezetten örültem, mikor csomózós mintákat keresve rátaláltam (német volt az első idegen nyelvem a suliban). Azóta jó pár karkötőt készítettem az ottani minták és a különböző technikákat bemutató leírások alapján, illetve az oldal fórumán hihetetlenül tehetséges és lelkes csomózókat ismertem meg, és egy igazán kedves, segítőkész közösség tagja lettem :) Összességében tehát mind "szakmailag" (mármint a csomózás terén), mint emberileg is rengeteget köszönhetek Connynak és a többieknek a fórumról, amiért nagyon hálás vagyok :)
Száz szónak is egy a vége, én mindenkinek, akit érdekel a csomózás, csak ajánlani tudom, hogy nézze meg ezt az oldalt - bár persze kell hozzá némettudás (a technikákat bemutató tutorialokhoz mindenképpen). De a karkötők képes mintáival szerintem komolyabb nyelvismeret nélkül is lehet boldogulni -és nagyon klasszul kinéző mintákról van szó, nem is kevésről, kezdőktől a profikig mindenki találhat köztük neki valót... I've mentioned earlier, how I like Conny's site, the freundschaftsbaender.at. It's in German, but I've learnt this language in school, so I had no problem with this. I've made many bracelets after Conny's patterns (they're all great!), and have learnt a lot of about knotting - but besides, I've met really talented and enthusiastic bracelet-makers on the forum of this site, and became member of a nice and helpful community :) I'm really glad to have found this site, and I'm very grateful to Conny and the other members from the forum! :)
So, if you want to learn how to make friendship bracelets or are searching for new ideas (and you understand German*),  I absolutely recommend this site to you! ;)

Tenger és erdő / Sea and forest

 Szintén filmek ihlette színkombinációk... Tavaly láttuk húgommal A tenger dala (Song of the sea) című rajzfilmet, ami egy csodálatos alkotás, gyönyörű és szívmelengető, csak ajánlani tudom mindenkinek :) (itt az ajánlója, ha valakit érdekel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huGZTSyfPOE) Néhány napra rá aztán megnéztem a rendező, Tomm Moore korábbi filmjét, a Kells titkát (The secret of Kells), az is nagyon tetszett (itt egy trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw2_HZTuQBE). Mindezek fényében érthető, hogy gyorsan el is készült egy tengerkék és egy smaragdzöld szett :)

Film-inspired colour combinations again... Last year I've seen the Song of the sea, an animated movie by Tomm Moore - a marvellous, beautiful, heartwarming film, highly recommended to everyone ;) After that I watched the director's earlier film, The secret of Kells - a very good one, too. So it's not surprising that I soon after made this sea-blue and emerald-green stuff :)

Based on my own ideas :) I made them in other colours too, but they were given away, so I can't show them. :(

Theodóra császárné / Empress Theodora

A fülbevalót édesapámtól kaptam pár éve azzal a megjegyzéssel, hogy "olyan Theodóra császárnős". Szerettem volna egy hozzáillő karkötőt, végül ezt sikerült összehozni, a maradékokból pedig egy medált is. Ideális kiegészítők, ha például épp lelkes segéderő vagy egy bizantinológiai konferencián ;)
Ősszel pedig végre eljutottam Ravennába - és igen, elnézve a San Vitale mozaikját, van némi hasonlóság Őfelsége ékszereivel :) Na jó, csak egy nagyon-nagyon kicsi, de szeretném ezt hinni :)
My father gave me these earrings for Christmas few years ago. He said they remind him of Empress Theodora. I wanted to make a fitting bracelet - here you can see the result... Perfect accessories when you are helping on a conference in byzantinology ;)
This autumn I had a chance to visit Ravenna - and yeah, beholding the mosaics in the Basilica San Vitale I'd say I can see the resemblance... ;)
